Who is Eligible? All Active Members of the Experimental Aircraft Association and their Dependents who are citizens or residents of United States, its territories and protectorates, and under the age of 76 are eligible. EAA Members and their Family are guaranteed acceptance into this EAA Plan provided they complete the required Enrollment form and pay the proper premium for their insurance. There are no physical examinations required! Insurance Coverage will begin after your Enrollment Form is received by the EAA Plan Administrator along with the proper premium payment. As long as the EAA Member and their Family, if applicable, remain eligible and pay the proper premium, coverage remains in force.
What Limit of Insurance is Available?
Insurance coverage is available starting at $50,000 and goes up to
the amount of $250,000.
What are the
Covered Losses? If You and Your Covered Dependents sustain an
Injury which results in any of the following Losses within 180 days(365 days for Minnesota residents)
of the date of accident, We will pay the injured person's amount of
Principal Sum, or a portion of such Principal Sum, as shown opposite
the Loss, after We receive Proof of Loss in accordance with the
Proof of Loss Provision.
This benefit will be paid
according to the General Provisions of the Policy.
We
will not pay more than the Principal Sum to any one person, for all
Losses due to the same accident. Your amount of Principal Sum is
shown in the Schedule of Insurance. The amount of Your Dependents'
Principal Sum is shown as a Percentage of Your Principal Sum in the
Schedule of Insurance.

"Quadriplegia" means total Paralysis of both upper and lower limbs.
"Hemiplegia" means total Paralysis of the upper and lower limbs on
one side of the body.
"Paraplegia" means total Paralysis of both upper limbs or
both lower limbs. "Paralysis" means total loss of use. A doctor
must determine the loss of use to be complete and not reversible at
the time the claim is submitted.
Loss
means with regard to :
- hands and feet, actual severance through or above wrists or ankle joints;
- sight, speech and hearing, entire irrecoverable loss thereof;
- thumb and index finger, actual severance through or above the metacarpophalangeal joints.

Here are the Special Aviation Benefits! If
an Insured Member Suffers a loss of life as a result of flying or
riding as a pilot (with a valid License) or crew member in an airplane or
aircraft which has a valid and current Airworthiness Certificate
issued by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or their
Designee, including a regularly scheduled airline or air carrier,
the Principal Sum will be paid after the appropriate Proof of Loss
has been provided. Further if an Eligible Person suffers a Loss of
Life as a result of flying or riding as a pilot (with a valid
License) or crew member in an airplane or aircraft which has a valid and
current Airworthiness Certificate issued by Federal Aviation
Association (FAA) or their Designee, while that airplane or
aircraft performing aerobatics, including aerobatics at an EAA or
EAA Division sanctioned event, the Principal Sum will be paid
after the appropriate Proof of Loss has been provided. This Benefit
includes the airplane or aircraft flown outside of United States,
its protectorates, territories, and Canada.
There
are some aviation activities that are not covered. These include :
- Crop Dusting
- Spraying and Seeding
- Commercial Advertising
- Banner Towing
- Fire Fighting
- Pipeline or Power Line Inspection
- Aerial Photography
- Sky Diving and Hang Gliding
- Speed Racing
- Endurance Tests or an attempt at Record Setting Flight
- Any operation which requires a special permit from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) even if that permit is granted, except if the permit is required solely because of the Territory flown over or landed on, aerobatics at other than an airshow, or aerobatics at an EAA or EAA Division Sanctioned event.
What other Special Insurance coverage is provided? Here is a list and brief description of other special insurance coverage items:
- Seat Belt Benefit - The Policy Benefit is increased by an amount of 10% of the Principal Sum to a maximum of $25,000 in the event of a covered loss while riding in an automobile while wearing seat belts. If at the time of loss, it can not be determined whether or not seat belts were in use a default minimum benefit of $1,000 is payable.
- Spouse Education Benefit(Not available to Nevada residents) - An education benefit of 5% of the Principal Sum to a maximum of $5,000 per year for a maximum of 4 consecutive years is payable, If the Family plan is chosen and a covered member dies as a result of a covered accident. To be eligible for payment, the covered dependent child(ren) must have been in the 12 grade or higher at the time of the covered member's accidental death.
So how much does the EAA Personal Insurance cost? The EAA has special low ANNUAL rates for the EAA Members and their Families. Remember there is no increase in Rates or reduction in Benefits because of AGE!

The Policy does not cover any Loss caused or contributed by:
- sickness or a treatment of sickness, as described in the definition of Injury;
- intentionally self-inflicted injury;
- suicide or attempted suicide, whether sane or insane;
- war or act of war, whether declared or not;
- Injury sustained while on active duty as a member of the armed forces (land, water, air) of any country of international authority except Reserve National Guard Service;
- Injury sustained while taking drugs, including but not limited to sedatives, narcotics, barbiturates, amphetamines, or hallucinogens, unless as prescribed by or administered by a Physician;
- Injury sustained while riding or driving in a scheduled race or testing any Motor vehicles on tracks, speedways or proving grounds;
- Injury sustained while committing or attempting to commit a felony;
- Injury sustained while driving while Intoxicated;
- Injury sustained while participating in or practicing for any professional, semi-professional or intercollegiate sports activity;
- Injury sustained by insured or dependent over age 18 while participating in or practicing for any martial art, mixed martial art or similar organized fight sport activity including but not limited to boxing, wrestling, karate, judo, "ultimate" fighting, kick boxing or similar disciplines;
- Injury sustained where a Covered Person is the operator and does not possess a current and valid motor vehicle operator's license, except in a Driver's Education Program;
- Injury sustained handling, storing or transporting explosives or fireworks;
- Injury sustained scaling up cliffs or mountain walls or icebergs;
- Injury sustained while spelunking (exploring caves);
- Injury sustained while participating in or practicing for any rodeo event;
- Injury incurred from repetitive motion injuries, bursitis, strains and tendonitis not related to a specific injury;
- Injury sustained while driving or riding on vehicles for off-road use including but not limited to all-terrain vehicles (ATV's).
